Nissan 100% Electric SUV: The 2022 Ariya

Nissan's first electric SUV was well worth the wait. The automaker that pioneered the Leaf now offers a 100% electric SUV with remarkable capabilities.

Find out more about the vehicle, its versions and capacities, its avant-garde design and its advanced safety technologies.

An SUV with Many Versions

Whether you're looking for the most fuel-efficient, most high-performance, or most autonomous vehicle possible, the new Ariya's versions let you choose what's important to you.

On the one hand, you can equip the car with one or two electric motors. In the first case, it develops 215 or 239 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque; in the second, both motors offer more with up to 389 horsepower and 443 lb-ft!

On the other hand, you also have two choices of batteries depending on your desired range. A 63-kWh battery gives you a range of at least 330 km; another 87-kWh battery will allow you to travel up to 482 km on a single charge!

As Charles René, a journalist for La Presse, points out:

"That's considerably more than the Volkswagen ID.4 (400 km) and compares favourably to the Ford Mustang Mach-E with two-wheel drive (483 km)."

See how the different models compare in terms of power and range:

Version Power Range

  • Engage : 214 horsepower / 346 km
  • Evolve e-4ORCE : 335 horsepower / 330 km
  • Venture+ : 238 horsepower / 482 km
  • Evolve+ : 238 horsepower / 458 km
  • Platine+ e-4ORCE : 389 horsepower / 426 km
  • Premiere e-4ORCE : 389 horsepower / 426 km

Ideal for Travelling Thanks to Fast Charging

If you're planning on going on long trips, most versions of the Ariya offer a generous range. Technologies such as regenerative braking optimize the vehicle's performance. Your destination is far away, and you need a little boost? A single 20-minute break allows you to recharge your vehicle up to:

  • 221 to 235 km with a 130 kW fast charger
  • 36 to 40 km with a 22 kW charger
  • 13 or 14 km with a 7.2 kW charger

You'll also notice that three of the versions on the menu are marked "e-4ORCE." As the number suggests, these are all-wheel-drive versions and come with two engines. These versions add a fourth driving mode, "Snow," to the Eco, Normal and Sport modes. No matter where you're going or what season you're in, you've got nothing to worry about with the Ariya.

For travel, space is also a must. Thanks to its new CMF-EV platform, this electric car offers generous and comfortable space for all passengers on board. As for the trunk, it can store 646 L of cargo and up to 1,690 L when the seats are lowered.

Modernized Inside and Out

At first glance, the Ariya is unlike any other Nissan, displaying a unique appearance in the lineup. The brand's signature V-shaped grille is accentuated by the presence of downwardly extended daytime running lights and its new illuminated Nissan badge.

For a sporty, aerodynamic look, elements such as distinctive, nearly full wheels, a rear spoiler and a coupe-like roofline are also added.

Opening the doors reveals a cutting-edge interior, incorporating only tactile controls. The infotainment system is linked to the instrumentation, two 12.3-inch screens. It is also possible to customize the information you want to display on one or the other interchangeably! Amazon Alexa is also added to the list of technologies for easier interactions.

Advanced Driver Assistance with ProPilot 2.0

Obstacle detection all around the car and intelligent emergency braking are now a staple at Nissan. The automaker is taking it a step further by integrating the latest generation of ProPilot, which:

  • Recognizes curves and exit ramps and helps you slow down
  • Helps you slow down and speed up in traffic
  • Helps you stay in the centre of the lane
  • Directs the vehicle to park autonomously
